Biography

Dr. Kondragunta Rajendra ‘Raj’ Prasad is Surgical Director of the liver transplant program and a Professor of Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He has practiced high volume liver surgery for more than 20 years.  He trained in three continents, starting his career as a Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplant Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals in UK. Throughout his career he has pioneered new techniques and services in liver transplantation and liver cancer surgery. These include techniques that enabled transplantation of very small children, transplant techniques to perform complex liver cancer surgeries, laparoscopic liver resections and living donor liver transplantation. His research interests include liver regeneration, tumor biology, predicting post liver resection liver failure and transplantation for cancers. He continues as a Visiting Professor at University of Leeds. In addition, Dr. Prasad has developed new protocols for transplantation of colorectal liver metastases, intrahepatic and peri-hilar cholangiocarcinoma, which are currently being evaluated in UK. He has also held several leadership roles such as Director of Surgery at Leeds Hospitals, National Clinical Lead to improve utilization of liver grafts, Chair of UK Liver Transplant Research Collaborative, has mentored other transplant programs in developing living donor liver transplantation and continues as an International Expert for the National LDLT program in UK.
