Biography

Dr. Shi joined the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1992 as an assistant professor. He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the Fourth Military Medical University in Xian, China. After earning his medical degree in 1973, Dr. Shi continued his academic studies and obtained a Masters Degree and PhD in orthopaedic surgery. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the First Affiliated Hospital and then served as an associate professor and Director of Hand Surgery before coming to the United States.

Dr. Shi completed his Hand Surgery Fellowship in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1988 and studied with a hand surgery scholarship at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery in Louisville, Kentucky in 1992. His clinical interests/research includes hand and microsurgery and free tissue transfer coverage, particularly for complicated lower extremity injuries.  Dr. Shi also focuses on clinical treatment and research of post-surgical neuroma pain.

Dr. Shi is a member of the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery.
