MCW Pharmacy School Founding Dean Installed as Chair-Elect of the AACP Council of Deans

George E. MacKinnon III, PhD, MS, RPhGeorge E. MacKinnon III, PhD, MS, RPh, founding dean of the MCW School of Pharmacy, was installed as chair-elect of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy’s (AACP) Council of Deans (COD) at the AACP annual meeting held in Aurora, Colorado from July 21–25. Dr. MacKinnon will serve for one year as chair-elect and ascend to chair in July 2024. He will concurrently serve on the AACP Board of Directors for three years.

Dr. MacKinnon previously served as Vice President of Academic Affairs with AACP until 2008. Also, at the AACP annual meeting, Dr. MacKinnon spoke during a COD networking session on the advancement of pharmacy via advocacy, having chaired the Promoting Advancement of Pharmacy Taskforce for 2022–23. The session included a review of national legislation that could impact the pharmacy profession and academic pharmacy, plus strategies and tools to facilitate advocacy planning, including the introduction of the Advocacy Guide for Strategic Engagement and Practice Advancement to be available on the AACP website.

The mission of the COD is to identify and address major issues related to the conduct of professional, post-professional and graduate education, research and service in pharmacy and the pharmaceutical sciences. The council develops various reports and/or recommendations that can be helpful to AACP and individual pharmacy schools.
