Dr. Carroll will serve a 5-year term beginning January 1, 2028.

ARVO is a leader in vision research, and the largest eye and vision research organization in the world with more than 11,500 members representing over 75 countries. “Dr. Joseph Carroll is a pillar of the MCW research and innovation community and the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences,” says Vinay Kumar Aakalu, MD, MPH, chair for the department of ophthalmology & visual sciences. “Aside from his outstanding research contributions, he has been an international vision science leader for many years. Joe is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, the flagship journal of ARVO. His continual leadership has now been recognized again with his election as Editor-in-Chief of TVST, the premier translational research journal for ophthalmology. The Department of Ophthalmology is incredibly grateful to Dr. Carroll and proud of this latest accomplishment.”

Dr. Carroll’s current term as Editor-in-Chief for ARVO’s Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, a publication that emphasizes clinical and laboratory hypothesis-based research, began in January 2023. Dr. Carroll will be the first person to have served as Editor-in-Chief for more than one ARVO journal. Learn more about ARVO’s collection of journals.
