Research Interests

Cynthia Kay, MD, MS, is a graduate of MCW's Internal Medicine Residency Program-Primary Care Track. After residency, she completed the Academic Fellowship in Primary Care Research at MCW and earned a MS in Clinical & Translational Science. She worked on various projects, including exploring hospital practice patterns of invasive bedside procedures, attending and resident evaluations, and the association between USMLE, In-Service Exam, and ABIM scores. She was fortunate enough to have received a PCORP Seed grant at the end of her fellowship to continue her work on examining the clinical outcomes of bedside procedures by various hospital services. Her interests continue to be in residency education, procedure training, primary care, and chronic diseases. Currently, she is working on a pilot study to understand how chronic pain is evaluated and managed in the outpatient setting. The results of which will identify areas in need of improvement. The goal is to develop and implement an intervention that will transform the way chronic non-cancer pain is managed, focusing on an evidence-based medicine, and making the use of opioids safer.
