Biography

“As a prenatal genetic counselor, my priority is to personalize my care in order to best support each individual patient during their pregnancy. I aim to explain genetic risks to their pregnancy in a way every patient can understand because I believe that providing patients with this information empowers them to make the best decisions for themselves and their pregnancies.”

Allison Genchanok joined the Mellowes Center for Genomic Sciences and Precision Medicine staff in June 2017. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Her Master of Science degree in Genetic Counseling was obtained in 2017 at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She became Board Certified Genetic Counselor through the American Board of Genetic Counseling in 2017.

She sees patients in the prenatal setting at the Maternal Fetal Care Center for advanced maternal age, personal or family histories of genetic conditions, recurrent pregnancy loss, carrier screening or planning for a future pregnancy. She is also a provider at the Fetal Concerns Center where she primarily sees patients with abnormal ultrasound findings.

There are several options for testing during pregnancy and Allison helps patients make informed decisions regarding genetic testing using the patients’ personal beliefs, values, and goals. She reviews the family history and other risk factors to educate patients about their options and works as a resource for patients and their families.

In her spare time, Allison enjoys exploring the Milwaukee area. She enjoys reading, cooking, and spending quality time outdoors.
