Medical College of Wisconsin Advanced Practice Provider Preceptorships

Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin employ many advanced practice providers (APPs).

The Medical College of Wisconsin’s adult practice, Medical College Physicians (MCP), in collaboration with Froedtert ThedaCare Community Physicians’ (CP) practice as an academic medical center is committed to training the next generation of health care providers. APP students have opportunities for clinical placements within specialty care, primary care/family medicine, midwifery, and with certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs).

Due to limited capacity for students, NP, PA, and CNM students requesting a clinical placement must apply via our online application process. We respectfully request that school placement coordinators and individual students refrain from contacting our faculty and staff to secure rotations. CRNA student rotations are coordinated directly between the school and the department of anesthesia at this time.

While completing an application does not guarantee a rotation, this centralized process provides access to all potential clinical rotations and preceptors as appropriate. Students or placement coordinators that bypass this process by securing clinical rotations directly with preceptors will not be allowed to proceed.

Application Deadlines

  • Spring Semester (January through May) - Deadline September 15
  • Summer Semester (June through August) - Deadline January 31
  • Fall Semester (September through December) Deadline April 15

Deadlines are necessary for a fair application process selection and will be strictly followed by the Student Placement Coordinator.

Affiliation Agreements

An affiliation agreement and program memorandum with both Froedtert Health and the Medical College of Wisconsin are required for each student clinical experience and are required prior to student placement. Please check both lists of affiliated institutions below for your institution's name.

If your institution is not listed, unfortunately you will not be eligible to submit an application. Due to the large volume of applications, we are not creating any new affiliation agreements with additional programs at this time. If you have questions regarding an existing MCW affiliation agreement, please contact APPStudentPlacement@mcw.edu.

For questions related to Froedtert Health affiliation agreements, please contact studentplacements@froedtert.com.

Application Process

Please use the links below to complete your application for a specific semester. When completing your application, please ensure you have the following information ready:

  1. Current resume/CV to upload
  2. Contact info for your program including program coordinator or faculty advisor name and email address
  3. Specific clinical rotation(s) you are requesting up to 3 potential options
  4. Specific rotation requirements such as hours, type of clinical environment (inpatient, outpatient, hybrid)
  5. Exact rotation dates
  6. If you have a preferred preceptor for a specific rotation, please include their name and practice location. This does not guarantee placement with this preceptor.
