Biography
Dr. Kaufman is a former attending pediatric neurosurgeon at Children’s Wisconsin. He was the chief and director of the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery from 2000 through 2016, when he passed on the leadership to Dr. Sean Lew. During his tenure as Chief, Dr. Kaufman assembled a highly qualified team of pediatric neurosurgical providers, all with special expertise in pediatric neurosurgery. The group provided all forms of surgical treatment for pediatric neurological problems.
He was trained at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland Ohio) and is board certified in both Neurosurgery and Pediatric Neurosurgery. He has been President of the American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery, Chair of the Joint Section of Pediatric Neurosurgery (of the AANS/CNS), and a board member of the American Board of Pediatric Neurosurgery.
Dr. Kaufman focused his clinical interest on the surgical treatment of spasticity, hydrocephalus, and spinal dysraphism. He remained involved in the care of pediatric brain tumors and pediatric neurological trauma. He has authored many journal articles and chapters, and remained actively involved in clinical research and outcomes involving hydrocephalus, Chiari malformations, and spasticity.
