Research Interests
I graduated with my DPT in 2015 from Carroll University. Upon graduation, I practiced as an acute care physical therapist primarily within the Cardiopulmonary Intensive Care Unit. I began my PhD in the Fall of 2020 in the laboratory of Dr. Kristi Streeter at Marquette University. My doctoral work focused on the use of diaphragm pacing as a rehabilitative intervention in a rodent model of cervical spinal cord injury. I am now working as a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Gary Mouradian focused on the role of pulmonary vagal sensory neurons in models of chronic lung disease.
In the future, I aim to establish my own translational laboratory focused on rehabilitative interventions for both acute and chronic respiratory pathology. I’m particularly excited to leverage my experience with phrenic afferents (from my doctoral work) with vagal afferents (postdoctoral work). Further, given my clinical background, I’m particularly interested in building clinical partnerships to both broaden and support the work of my future translational laboratory.
