Biochemistry Graduate Student Receives Award for MCW Graduate School Competition

Katy LaFondKaty LaFond, graduate student in Dr. Benjamin Gantner's Lab in the Department of Biochemistry, was selected as the winner in the MCW Graduate School's annual Three Minute Thesis competition.

The competition, which took place as part of the Graduate School's Student Appreciation Week festivities, was adopted from the internationally known Three Minute Thesis competition, which celebrates the exciting research conducted by Doctor of Philosophy students. Developed by The University of Queensland, 3MT cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills. The competition supports their capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.

Katy's presentation, "Just say “N-O”! Macrophage NOS1 Drives Neutrophil Mediated Injury", finished first out of the 10 competitors, and received an award as a result. Congratulations Katy!
