Research Interests
Our lab is interested in understanding β-cell damage mediated by cytokines (i.e. IL-1) as an early event in the development of type 1 diabetes. IL-1 stimulates nitric oxide production in β-cells, and nitric oxide has been known to play both damaging and protective roles in β-cells. My research project focuses on identifying the protective mechanisms mediated by nitric oxide in β-cells.
