Biochemistry Graduate Student Recognized for Top Poster Award at ISTH 2025 Congress
Thomas Momanyi, Biochemistry graduate student in Dr. Joshua Muia's Lab, presented a poster at the ISTH (International Society for Thrombosis and Hemostasis) 2025 Congress in Washington, DC. This poster and abstract, among over 1,500 submitted to the conference, was selected for a Top Poster Award. This award is given to the top 50 posters, a testament to the scientific significance and potential clinical impact of this research in the society. The poster, titled "Identification of Protein-Protein Interaction Between ADAMTS13 and Activated Platelet Marker CD63," explores a novel mechanistic link between a key metalloprotease involved in thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) and CD63, a tetraspanin protein expressed on activated platelets. This work sheds light on how CD63 may modulate ADAMTS13 function and ultimately affect von Willebrand factor (VWF) processing—an essential step in blood clot regulation.
