Dr. Ugwuji Maduekwe to Join AHW Endowment and MCW Department of Surgery

Ugwuji Maduekwe, MD, MMSc, MPH

Ugwuji N. Maduekwe, MD, MMSc, MPH has been appointed deputy director of the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment (AHW) and associate professor of surgery and director of regional therapies in the MCW Division of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Maduekwe will join us on Aug. 15.

Dr. Maduekwe currently serves as assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology & Endocrine Surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on health disparities, social determinants of health and access to cancer care.

At MCW, Dr. Maduekwe will helm the regional therapies program in the Division of Surgical Oncology with a clinical focus on peritoneal surface malignancies and serve as deputy director of AHW, a statewide philanthropic organization established by MCW to improve health and advance health equity in Wisconsin. In this role, she will support the ongoing efforts of AHW to address health disparities in the state, with a particular focus on the areas of heart health, mental and behavioral health, and cancer.

Dr. Maduekwe earned a Bachelor of Science in molecular and cell biology from the University of Texas at Dallas, MD and MMSc degrees from Harvard Medical School, and an MPH from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed her general surgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital followed by a complex general surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
