Dr. Carole S. Vetter joined the department in 1999 after completing a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Utah that same year. She now serves as the Residency Director for the department. A native Wisconsinite, Dr. Vetter graduated from The University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1988 with a bachelor of science in biochemistry and a minor in athletic training. She became a certified athletic trainer in 1989 and during the 1989 academic year, worked as a staff athletic trainer for the women's athletic department at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Vetter received her doctor of medicine degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1993. From 1993 to 1998, Dr. Vetter completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Dr. Vetter is a professor of orthopaedic surgery in the Sports Medicine Division. She serves as team physician for the US Speedskating Team and the Milwaukee Bucks. She is assistant team physician for the Milwaukee Ballet, the Milwaukee Torrent, and the Milwaukee Brewers. Her previous experience in sports medicine includes positions as assistant team physician for the University of Utah football and soccer teams and staff physician for the Park City Clinic. She was a volunteer physician for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Dr. Vetter has received "Best Doctors in America" recognition since 2007.

Dr. Vetter has the distinct honor of being named the Medical College of Wisconsin's first David S. Haskell, MD Endowed Professor in Orthopaedic Education.

Research Interests

Her clinical interests include sports injuries, women's sports medicine, injury prevention in the female athlete, arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder, patellofemoral disorders and their surgical treatment, preemptive pain management in sports surgery, and the treatment of post traumatic stiffness in knee joints.
