The Psychiatry Residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals (Milwaukee) accepts applications (for all PGY years) through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). All of our interviews for the 2021-22 season will held virtually.

Will you accept applications for PGY 2 residents
The Psychiatry Residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin – Milwaukee accepts applications for Post-Graduate Year 1 and 2 through ERAS. Visit the ERAS website for more information.
How many letters of recommendation do you require?
We prefer four letters of recommendation (LOR). However, we recognize that the COVID pandemic may have made it more difficult to get LOR this year. As such, we require a minimum of three LOR to be considered for an invitation.
Do you have a requirement on who writes the letters?
The most useful LORs are from someone with whom you’ve worked clinically, who can comment on your interpersonal skills, professionalism, care for patients, etc. If you have completed any previous training or left another program, we do require a LOR from your previous program director. We do not require a letter from the chairperson of your department.
What parts of the application need to be in before I will be considered for an interview?
We require the application, personal statement, Step 1 or COMLEX 1 and three letters of recommendation before being considered for an interview.
Do you require a minimum score on Step 1?
We do not have a hard cutoff for board scores, recognizing that some of the best residents can struggle with standardized exams. This is just one piece of information that we use to determine which candidates to invite.
Do you need to have Step 2 in before applying?
No. We require Step 1 or COMLEX 1. We recognize that Step 2 & COMLEX 2 have been more difficult to schedule and may not be completed in time for applications. As CS has been cancelled for this year, we will not be taking this into account for interview decisions.
When will applicants be invited?
We will begin reviewing applications on ERAS on October 21. Invitations will begin soon after on a rolling basis. Given the time we put into the application review, we expect that we will continue to send invitations throughout November with some into December. Applicants who are waitlisted or not selected for interviews will be notified through ERAS. If you have not heard from us, please check that all documentation has been downloaded onto ERAS. We may still be reviewing your application.
When will you start interviewing applicants?
We expect to start the interviewing process in November.
Do you consider International Medical Graduates?
We do consider and accept qualified IMGs. We review a number of items on the application, including prior psychiatric experience in the US and evidence of a command of the English language. As with all of our applicants, evidence of a passion for a career in psychiatry and a social conscience are also valued.
Do you sponsor Visas?
We accept J-1 and H-1B visas. Please see the Graduate Medical Education website for further clarification.
Do you offer observerships?

Our department does not routinely offer observerships, externships or pre-match positions.
