Department of Surgery Achieves 100% ABSITE Three-Year Pass Rate

In order to become certified by the American Board of Surgery (Board Certified), all U.S. General Surgery graduates take a written exam (Qualifying Exam) and oral exam (Certifying Exam). The national average for passing either exam on the first attempt is 96% for the Qualifying Exam and 86% for the Certifying Exam. We are very proud of all our graduates, as they have consistently maintained a pass rate higher than the national average. Most notably, in the last three years our residents have attained a 100% pass rate for both exams. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our residents and the excellent teaching from our faculty.
