William Hogan, MD, MS Elected as Co-Chair of National Committee for Data Science

William Hogan, MD, MSThe Data Science Institute (DSI) is pleased to announce that William Hogan, MD, MS, Mary T., and Ted D. Kellner Chair of Data Science; Director and Professor, DSI; Associate Director for Data Science, Mellowes Center for Genomic and Precision Medicine; and Senior Associate Director, CTSI, was elected as the co-chair of the Lead Team of the Biostatistics, Informatics and Data Science (BIDS) enterprise committee (EC) to begin in CY2026. The BIDS EC is a transdisciplinary committee charged with advancing Clinical and Translational Research (CTR) and Translational Science by leveraging data, information, and computational methods. Through its work, the BIDS EC fosters collaboration across CTSA hubs, supports the development and dissemination of tools and best practices, and drives innovation in data-powered research. It is one of only four ECs in the national CTSA network.

The BIDS EC has four primary goals. They are 1) to leverage biostatistics, biomedical informatics, and data science to drive innovation and improve research rigor across the CTSA Program. 2) Serve as a dynamic forum for multi-directional engagement among CTSA hubs, NCATS leadership, and scientific communities to address shared challenges. 3) Co-create scalable methods, resources, and guidance that support high-quality, reproducible clinical and translational research. 4) Remain agile through annual goal setting, charter reviews, and targeted working groups that respond to evolving scientific priorities and CTSA program demands.

Dr. Hogan is poised to co-chair the BIDS EC due to his colleagues’ recognition of his extensive experience in the field of data science and multiple-PI on the forthcoming CTSA 4.0 grant. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Hogan on his leadership appointment with this crucial committee.
