About the Center for Disease Prevention Research

Our Mission

The mission of the Center for Disease Prevention Research is to reduce the burden of major chronic diseases by elucidating the measures of preventive modalities, thereby providing a scientific rationale for the design of new and more effective approaches for the prevention of chronic diseases. The mandate of the Center is to: (1) Support innovative research in disease prevention and accelerate the translation of basic research into useful clinical prevention/intervention strategies; (2) Promote innovative collaborations among experts from multiple centers and departments; (3) Recruit outstanding basic and physician scientists to lead disease prevention research and synergize with existing Center members; and (4) Establish disease prevention education infrastructure to educate healthcare providers and policymakers.

The Center for Disease Prevention Research facilitates the research endeavors of these faculty by providing:

  • Opportunities for meeting and interacting with other disease prevention scientists
  • Administrative support for the development of multi-investigator grants and for the identification of potential collaborators
  • Research mentoring for junior faculty
  • Pre- and post-award facilitation, including scientific consultation
  • Assistance with prevention-centered clinical trials
