Stuart J. Wong, MDWelcome to the Center for Disease Prevention Research (CDPR) at the Medical College of Wisconsin. CDPR is committed to reducing chronic disease and improving health in Southeastern Wisconsin and beyond. We support and advance lifestyle medicine through programming and partnerships that reach students, trainees, employees, patients, and the broader community.

Dr. Stuart Wong serves as the Director of CDPR and Professor of Hematology and Oncology in the Department of Medicine. As a cancer researcher and physician, Dr. Wong views cancer prevention as a critical priority. In both of his roles at MCW, Dr. Wong is dedicated to educating patients and the community about disease prevention through nutrition and healthy living.

Our Mission

The Center for Disease Prevention Research works to reduce the burden of major chronic diseases by advancing research, education, and innovation in disease prevention, lifestyle medicine, and preventive health. The Center supports this mission by:

  • Supporting innovative research in disease prevention and accelerating the translation of basic research into useful clinical prevention/intervention strategies.
  • Promoting innovative collaborations among experts from multiple centers, departments, disciplines, and community partners.
  • Establishing and advancing disease prevention, lifestyle medicine, and culinary medicine education infrastructure to educate healthcare providers, learners, researchers, and policymakers.
  • Fostering innovation in medical education, research, and care delivery by integrating disease prevention and lifestyle medicine into approaches that improve health and reduce the burden of chronic disease.
