Milwaukee, This is Your Front Line: Julie Owen, MD and Deepa Pawar, MD, MPH

Pawar and Owen Frontline Story Tile

“Hello! I'm Deepa. I am a Milwaukee native and a consult psychiatrist. I have been at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) since 2013 and have deeply enjoyed my time because of all the wonderful people I work with on a daily basis. When I am not at work, I can often be found enjoying the great outdoors (or currently our backyard) with my family.

I’m Julie, an MCW ‘lifer,’ having completed medical school (’13), residency (’17), and fellowship (’18) here in Milwaukee. I’m married to an MCW grad (‘18), Dr. John Owen, and we have a wonderfully spunky 5-year-old, Jack. As a psychiatrist working in the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Emergency Department, I am inspired every day by the brilliant and tireless frontline emergency medicine team. They have masterfully navigated the COVID-19 crisis without missing a beat.”

“Inspired by our frontline colleagues, we wanted to do our part to support them. In an effort to flatten the curve on the psychological impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) on healthcare workers, we collaborated with Dr. Merritt Schreiber, an expert in disaster mental health from UCLA. We are in the process of sharing Anticipate, Plan, Deter & PsySTART — an evidence-informed system to proactively manage stress to enhance personal, team and system resilience during all phases of a disaster and as part of routine healthcare emergency preparedness. Our impressive colleagues deserve both physical and mental personal protective equipment so they can keep doing what they do best: caring for our community.”
