Medical College of Wisconsin Receives Insight Into Diversity 2021 Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award

Milwaukee, Oct. 18, 2021 – Today, the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) received the 2021 Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education. As a recipient of the annual Health Professions HEED Award — a national honor recognizing U.S. health colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion — MCW will be featured, along with 50 other recipients, in the December 2021 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.

“At MCW, we are working toward a healthier world that is just, equitable, and provides the opportunity for everyone to thrive. We envision a world where diversity is a driver of health and wellbeing, not a barrier,” said C. Greer Jordan, MBA, PhD, VP for Inclusion and Diversity at MCW. “It is a tribute to the unwavering, decades-long commitment and work of our leaders at all levels and roles at MCW. It is an honor to join this list of forward-thinking and innovative schools that are receiving this award alongside the Medical College of Wisconsin.”

INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine selected MCW for its success in sustaining inclusive excellence despite the ongoing challenges of the pandemic and social stresses of the past year. MCW strives towards inclusive excellence through learning and growth, inclusive leadership at all levels, attracting and building a 21st-century knowledge force, focusing on data, metrics, and measures for impact, and serving as an anchor for heath equity throughout the Milwaukee community and beyond.

“The Health Professions HEED Award process consists of a comprehensive and rigorous application that includes questions relating to the recruitment and retention of students and employees – and best practices for both – continued leadership support for diversity, and other aspects of campus diversity and inclusion,” said Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. “We take a detailed approach to reviewing each application in deciding who will be named a Health Professions HEED Award recipient. Our standards are high, and we look for schools where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work being done every day across their campus.”
