Mellowes Center Hosting 3rd Rare Diseases and Rare Cancers in the Era of System Biology Symposium

The Mellowes Center for Genomic Sciences & Precision Medicine (Mellowes Center) at MCW is hosting its 3rd annual symposium, "Rare Diseases and Rare Cancers in the Era of Systems Biology," held on Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 12-13, as a two-day hybrid event featuring seminars and panel discussions from expert researchers and clinicians in four focus areas.

The symposium will bring together regional and international speakers to explore the current landscape and future directions of rare disease and rare cancer research, advocating for greater understanding and expanded therapeutic development.

Event highlights include:

  • Two Keynote Speakers: Dr. Marni Falk, University of Pennsylvania, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and Dr. Danny Miller, University of Washington, Seattle Children’s Hospital
  • Four Key Areas of Focus: highlighting team science accomplishments in Mechanisms to Medicine in Mitochondrial Diseases, Diagnostic Discovery of Diseases, Human Diseases of the Epigenome, and Functional Modeling and Validation of Disease Variants.
  • Rare Storytellers®: We will hear from patients directly impacted by a rare disease who guide our continued search for understanding of the genome and the mechanisms behind disease.

New Poster Sessions: Complete the Mellowes Center Call For Abstracts form to participate in our in-person poster session. All faculty, staff, students, and postdocs are eligible to participate. All submitted abstracts will be considered for selection as a podium presentation; an opportunity to bring your work to center stage during one of our four networking sessions.
