Medical College of Wisconsin Joins MKE Tech Hub Coalition as Catalyst to Advance Strong Knowledge Economy in Southeast Wisconsin

Coalition Aims to Double the Tech Workforce in Region by 2025

Milwaukee, June 23, 2021 - The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) announced it has joined the MKE Tech Hub Coalition to support growth within the region’s tech workforce and to drive innovation and economic success in the area.

As the largest research institution in the Milwaukee metro area and the second largest in Wisconsin, MCW values the vital role of tech to improve health in our community through education, patient care, research and community engagement. In the last year, MCW leaders worked closely with MKE Tech Hub Coalition and Metro Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC) to identify partnership and funding opportunities to build a knowledge economy in southeast Wisconsin.

“MCW is both a recipient of the benefits of MKE Tech Hub’s work and catalyst to advance a strong knowledge economy in our region,” said John R. Raymond, Sr., MD, president and CEO of MCW. “Our active membership in the MKE Tech Hub Coalition is the natural progression of the partnership we have built as we work together toward an innovative future.”

MCW is committed to advancing a knowledge economy in the region by recruiting and retaining world-class scientists, clinicians, leaders and learners and by leveraging its research and healthcare strengths to attract national funding that stimulates jobs and the economy. National Institutes of Health (NIH) report a $1 increase in basic science research stimulates an additional $8.38 of industry research and development after eight years and $1 increase in clinical research, such as clinical trials, stimulates an additional $2.35 of industry research and development investment after three years* (Our Society | National Institutes of Health (NIH). MCW’s $286 million annual research enterprise brings significant opportunities for industry partnerships to drive jobs and economic growth. MCW’s partnership with MKE Tech Hub Coalition is an important step toward fulfilling this vision.

“Talent truly drives innovation and innovation collaboration attracts and retains top talent. The Medical College of Wisconsin joins other model employers in our region that are willing to invest in developing tech talent in southeastern Wisconsin. The collective engagement among the coalition members multiplies the impact of each employer,” said Kathy Henrich, CEO for MKE Tech Hub Coalition.

The MKE Tech Hub Coalition was formed in October 2019 with six founding members. The mission of the MKE Tech Hub Coalition is to inclusively double the tech workforce in southeastern Wisconsin. Eighty-five member organizations are collaborating to fulfill the tech talent requirements of employers as well as drive enduring economic success and create life-changing jobs for the region.
