Dr. Stephen Hargarten to serve as a member of the Forum on Global Violence Prevention

Stephen Hargarten, MD, MPH, professor of emergency medicine and associate dean for global health at the Medical College of Wisconsin, has been asked to serve as a member of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Forum on Global Violence Prevention.

The Forum on Global Violence Prevention engages in dialogue and discussion that emphasizes the exploration of cross-cutting issues pertinent to the following seven categories of violence: child abuse, elder abuse, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, youth violence, collective violence, and self-directed violence.

The Forum provides a core group of domestic and international governmental and private sector stakeholders an ongoing, regular, evidence-based, impartial, scientific setting for the multidisciplinary exchange of information and ideas concerning violence prevention, especially in low-income and middle-income countries. It also illuminates policy, research, and practice priorities worthy of further study or investment; and, through public workshops, stays informed on the scientific basis and public health needs pertinent to global violence prevention.
