International Society of Bayesian Analysis 2016 World Meeting
Dr. Banerjee's talk at the International Society of Bayesian Analysis 2016 World Meeting in Sardinia, Italy examined how Bayesian nonparametric inference is often too expensive for massive datasets arising in the biomedical domain to be practically useful. Many current Bayesian computation ideas deal with discovery of an underlying lower dimensional structure. In this context, a new class of algorithms is proposed using randomized inference - which show that explicit dimension reduction is often not necessary, depending on the underlying smoothness of the prior processes, it may be possible to get away with random projections.
