Honor A Colleague Stories
As faculty and staff, we are powerful. Each and every day, we are working together to make a difference in the health of our communities and beyond. We all play a vital role in supporting our missions of Education, Research, Patient Care and Community Outreach, but this work cannot be done alone. Our colleagues serve as tremendous assets, allies, leaders and inspire us to achieve great things.
Through your gift to the Faculty Staff Gift Drive, you can honor the work and dedication of a special colleague and share their story of how they have made a positive impact on you. Read on to see stories of your fellow colleagues, and share in their recognition. Our colleagues help lift us up, inspire us and elevate the work we do. Together, we truly exemplify knowledge changing life.
Dr. Cece Hillard has been tremendously impactful on my career, and on me personally. Through her guidance and mentorship, Dr. Hillard has greatly facilitated progress for my hearing loss research program by connecting me with key collaborators, reading my grant proposals, and supporting my projects with access to NRC resources. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity join the Walter Zeit Fellowship through the Faculty Staff Gift Drive and give back to the NRC and MCW.
– Dr. Christina Runge
Dr. Stacey Gardiner took on my care after I had an NStemi in April 2016 out of town. She is a wonderful Cardiologist and truly cares about her patients.
– Jennifer Willmering
Dr. Arthur Derse has been and incredible mentor and colleague to many of us at MCW. His excellence in scholarship, leadership, and willingness to mentor junior faculty and students helps make MCW a fantastic place to pursue a career.
– Ryan Spellecy, PhD
Dr. Mathews provides exceptional leadership to the department, dedicating countless hours to the department, the College, and to further the practice of radiology. I see the results of his efforts everyday in the increased morale of our faculty, and the ever-increasing requests for his input in new committees and projects. Residents and guests are continually pleased at finding a leader not only incredibly knowledgeable, but approachable. He is a credit to our institution, and a pleasure to work with.
– Kent Schoenecker
My donation is a thank you to Matt Klein who works in the CIBMTR. I got a flat tire on the way to work but made it to the parking lot. It was a pretty cold morning and I was going to try to change it myself. Matt parked next to me and offered to help me after work which he did. It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be and without his help I probably wouldn't have been able to do it on my own. He would not accept any payment from me for his time and generosity. Thanks Matt!
– Christina Jensen, APNP
I would like my gift to Women in Science to recognize Kimara Ellefson for her consistent sponsorship and support of women's leadership at MCW. I am grateful for her ability to help groups see the big picture and connect our work in HR/Faculty Affairs back to the core mission of serving the greater community as we support our faculty. She leads by example and her generosity of time, talent and treasure along with her passion for MCW inspire me to give back.
– Paula Phillips
I frequently have the opportunity to supervise the Department of Medicine housestaff during clinical rotations at the VA hospital. I am always impressed that they are dedicated to their patients in ways that we could never teach. I am thankful for the parents and other teachers in their lives who helped them develop this sense of personal responsibility and commitment to the well being of others. I have listed Kathlyn Fletcher, the program director, as the honoree, in lieu of choosing one of the many deserving house officers. Though she is a wonderful person, too.
- Jeff Whittle, MD, MPH
I would like to recognize and thank Drs. Salzman, Coburn and Silverstein for their constant support of my research goals during 2017. The three of them have helped me make MCW a home for me for which I am extremely grateful.
- L. Silvia Munoz-Price, MD
Julie Raaum, DNP has been a great personal mentor, and tremendous model for the APPS at MCW. She has helped develop a strong, collegial and growing APP program – with a lot of behind the scenes, blood sweat and tears. A true professional!
- Patricia Quinn-Casper
Dr. Oksama Sayko and Dr. David Del Toro are part of the MCW elite Ukrainian Mission team. I wish to recognize their sacrifice and commitment to humanity.
- Dr. Nanjappareddy (Muni) M. Reddy
We are very grateful for your support of MCW. As a small token of thanks, we would like to offer you a gift for your cash or pledge contribution. We hope it will remind you of the power of your gift, and the power of knowledge changing life every day.
