Statistical Support

In our continued efforts to facilitate the research endeavors within our department, we are pleased to announce that the Department of Medicine (DoM) has changed the source of its biostatistical support. All members of DoM (for example, faculty, APPs, staff, residents, fellows and trainees) will now be supported by statisticians and research staff within CAPS, under the leadership of Dr. Leonard Egede and Dr. Rebekah Walker. While all biostatistical services are still free, and will support both unfunded and preparatory research, the expectation remains that effort for biostatistician services will be written into any grant for which these services are used.

You are welcome to continue using biostatisticians from the Institute of Health & Equity, particularly if you have a working relationship with faculty members in IHE, but please note that you will need to identify an alternative funding mechanism to support those services.

Types of requests that can be supported:

  • Grant applications
    • Sample size calculations
    • Preliminary data analysis for grant application
    • Development of statistical analysis plan for submission
  • Analysis for Manuscripts or Abstracts
    • Analysis of previously collected data
    • Analysis of national publicly available data
    • Data extract from medical records
  • Non-funded research
    • Sample size calculations
    • Assistance with study design
    • Development of statistical analysis plan and analysis of results
