Program Overview

Fellows will receive the clinical education necessary to treat a wide variety of sport- and exercise-related injuries and medical conditions. One of the defining strengths of our program is the breadth, depth, and diversity of experiences and training for the fellow. The fellow will care for athletes ranging from recreational competitors and youth athletes to collegiate, professional, and adaptive sports participants. Training spans pediatric and adult populations through outpatient clinics, sideline coverage and training rooms. Sports coverage includes mass events, youth athletic tournaments, high school, college, and professional athletic coverage.

Fellows learn musculoskeletal ultrasound through both didactics and in-office procedures. Ultrasound education follows AMSSM guidelines. Fellows experience the full range of sports-related injuries from managing acute injuries on the sideline to treating prolonged post-concussion syndrome in our multidisciplinary concussion program. Collaboration is central to the fellowship experience. The fellow will also work closely with our sports medicine surgical colleagues, along with exposure to our orthopaedic subspecialists: foot/ankle and hand/upper extremity. Additional educational opportunities include RED-S clinic, radiology (adult and pediatric MSK-focused radiologists), sports psychology, and sports physical therapy.

Beyond clinical training, fellows are encouraged to engage in community education and medical education. Our faculty members are actively involved with national organizations, creating pathways for the fellow to contribute to peer-reviewed publications and present at regional and national meetings. The fellow will have adequate time allowed to engage in academic activities and research, under the lead of a research mentor.

The fellowship participates in the NRMP match, and will participate in signals starting in 2026.
