About the Keynote Address
Cultivating self-advocacy, promoting wellness, and setting boundaries are essential components for success and resilience in any demanding profession. Dr. Olson will share personal examples to highlight how cultivating self-advocacy, promoting wellness, and setting personal and professional boundaries are vital for both individual and team resilience. Join us to explore effective strategies and resources that empower you to embrace your strengths and thrive in challenging academic and professional landscapes.
About the Keynote Speaker
Dr. Jessica Olson is a health disparities researcher who works with teams of multidisciplinary researchers, clinicians, and community partners to identify innovative solutions to complex health issues. Her work is centered on multifactorial contributors to inequitable outcomes in breast cancer, lung cancer, and maternal health.
She serves as: 1) an MPI in the NIH U54 ASCEND WI (Addressing Key Social-Structural Risk Factors for Racial Disparities in Maternal Morbidity in Southeastern WI) with Dr. Anna Palatnik (Contact PI), Drs. Julia Dickson-Gomez & Joni Williams (MPIs), and Director Dalvery Blackwell of the African American Breastfeeding Network. This project focuses on integrating community-based doulas into clinical healthcare settings, improving housing access for birthing people, training the next generation of maternal health disparities researchers, and advocating for systems- and policy-level change, 2) Co-I on Every Day Counts and Men Moving Forward (PI: Dr. Melinda Stolley), identifying biomarkers that predict response to lifestyle interventions in cancer survivors, and 3) Collaborator on the MCW Cancer Center’s Community and Cancer Science Network, a $20M investment dedicated to elimination of cancer disparities in Wisconsin by integrating diverse community, clinical, basic science, and population health perspectives. Internally, she serves as Director of the Basic and Translational Science Program in the Clinical and Translational Science Institute and Director of Evaluation and Innovation in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
