Children’s Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin began their partnership in the year 2000, and together they are proud to showcase what they have achieved when academic medicine is combined with the highest quality standards of pediatric care. Receiving numerous awards for clinical excellence, both Children's and MCW strive to provide state-of-the-art translational research, technology, preventative medicine, and cures for a wide scope of pediatric disorders. We are showing the parents and caregivers of Wisconsin, and beyond, how knowledge changes lives.

Overview

The Medical College of Wisconsin was founded in 1893. They rank in the top third of all US medical schools in NIH research support. The Center for Measuring University Performance ranks MCW as a top American research university.

Children's Hospital of Wisconsin was founded in 1894. They have been ranked among the best in the nation in 8 specialties included in U.S. News & World Report's 2022-23 Best Children's Hospitals report, and are verified as a Level I Children's Surgery Center by the American College of Surgeons.

Institutional Highlights

Children's Wisconsin employs 35 board-certified anesthesiologists with special training in pediatric anesthesiology that have helped perform 16,150 successful surgeries in the last year.

The Max McGee National Research Center for Juvenile Diabetes serves more than 1,500 children with Type I and Type II diabetes, and is comprised of board-certified/board-eligible pediatric endocrinologists.

Children's Wisconsin houses the largest Level IV NICU in Wisconsin, which is the to-tier neonatal care available, staffed with board-certified neonatologists.

The Clinical Immunodiagnostic and Research Laboratory (CIRL) at MCW provides a comprehensive panel of pediatric immunodeficiency diagnostic services in affiliation with the Asthma, Allergy and Clinical Immunology Center.

Children's Wisconsin Al McGuire Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) serves as a regional referral center, meeting the guidelines of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The Medical College of Wisconsin has over 20 pediatric specialty divisions, and offers award-winning clinical and research fellowship and residency training.

In 2021, the Medical College of Wisconsin received the Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award for its commitment to broadening diversity and inclusion through its initiatives, programs and outreach; student recruitment, retention and completion; and hiring practices for faculty and staff.

Children’s Wisconsin has joined with Children’s Community Health Plan (CCHP), participating in a year-long executive leadership program to address racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare.

The Medical College of Wisconsin has established a Diversity and Inclusion Action Committee (DIAC) is dedicated to developing an institutional culture to further the recruitment and retention of a diverse student body, trainees, staff and faculty and incorporating all values.

Children's Wisconsin's Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (ID&E) empowers and supports their patients, families, and employees to further their steadfast commitment to inclusion and health equity in all areas of research and care.
