Christopher P. Kops, CPA, MBA, was named Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration for the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) in January 2018. He joined MCW as Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration and Chief Operating Officer for the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), on February 15, 2016. Mr. Kops previously served as Vice President and Associate Dean for Administration and Finance, in the University of Chicago’s Division of Biological Sciences, from 2011-2015.
As Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration and Chief Operating Officer for MCW, Mr. Kops serves as the principal administrative officer of MCW and a member of the institution’s senior leadership team. He is responsible for MCW’s financial functions as well as the planning, organizing, evaluating and monitoring of all administrative and facilities functions. Mr. Kops oversees strategic financial and administrative planning, budget development and implementation, policy formulation, facilities and organizational development. Additionally, he has oversight of human resources, faculty affairs, facilities, central purchasing, information services and other institutional functions as required to support MCW’s missions. He reports to John R. Raymond, Sr., MD, MCW’s President and Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. Kops possesses over 25 years of experience providing leadership and direction, with demonstrated success in motivating and managing people. Mr. Kops has extensive experience in financial and administrative management, strategic planning, process improvement, faculty recruitment, and program development.
In his former role at the University of Chicago, Mr. Kops was a member of the cabinet of the Executive Vice President of Health Affairs/Dean, and played a leadership role in strategic planning, policy development, issues management and executive problem-solving. He served as principal steward of the resources of the Division of Biological Sciences, and was responsible for all matters related to the administrative and financial management of the Division and the Faculty Practice Plan. Specific responsibilities included financial operations, budget and financial planning, facilities planning and management, human resources, faculty compensation/academic affairs and auxiliary services.
From 2004-2011, Mr. Kops was Vice Dean for Administration and Finance at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (UPSOM). There, he served as key advisor to the Executive Vice President/Dean in all areas involving School of Medicine administration and finance, was the Chief Operating Officer, and represented the Dean in business and financial matters within the Medical School, with University officers and trustees, and with management and directors at the teaching hospitals. He also oversaw the planning, management, and day-to-day operations of the administrative and financial infrastructure that supported the Medical School’s research and educational programs. From 1998-2004, Mr. Kops served as Executive Director of Finance and Chief Finance Officer at UPSOM, with responsibilities for accounting, financial analysis, budget development and execution, financial reporting and forecasting.
From 1985-1998, Mr. Kops was a partner in the Healthcare Legislative and Regulatory Group at Coopers and Lybrand. Earlier in his career, he held positions as senior accountant and staff auditor.
Mr. Kops earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Drexel University in 1983 and a Master’s degree in Business Administration in healthcare administration from LaSalle University in 1990.
