Spinal Cord Injury Center

Members of the Department of Neurosurgery have developed extensive expertise and are nationally recognized in the management of spinal trauma. The Spinal Cord Injury Center is a regional referral center for the management of spinal injury and disorders. The Center provides comprehensive surgical, nonsurgical, and rehabilitation care to individuals with spinal trauma, as well as spinal cord injury.

State-of-the-art intensive care and medical and surgical techniques are provided in the early phase of the program. In addition, rehabilitation specialists provide all therapies designed to enhance maximum recovery from spinal cord injury and return to the community.

Shekar Kurpad, MD, PhD, is the medical director of the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Spinal Cord Injury Center. The Center opened in 1986 and receives referred patients from Wisconsin, northern Illinois, and northern Michigan.
