Preclinical Traumatic Brain Injury Research at ZVAMC Labs

Our Preclinical Traumatic Brain Injury research includes the evaluation of mild to severe, closed-head traumatic brain injury caused by blast or rotation. Ongoing investigations include the evaluation of human brain injury in sports and in the military environment, as well as brain injury in the rodent model. Brain injury in the rodent model is evaluated by behavioral abnormalities or changes, which are assessed using a variety of apparatuses housed in the rodent behavioral facilities, where investigators quantify cognitive and neuromotor deficits, as well as emotional changes post-injury.
