Superficial and Total Irradiation

Superficial Radiotherapy (SRT)

Superficial Radiotherapy (SRT) is a focused low energy X-rays, non-surgical solution to treat basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, keloids, and other superficial skin conditions. The low energy component allows for shallow skin treatments, thus sparing deeper healthy surrounding tissue.

Total Body Irradiation (TBI)

Total body irradiation (TBI) is a radiation therapy targeting the whole body. This treatment is primarily used for patients undergoing bone marrow transplants. The treatment suppresses the patient's immune system to avoid rejection of the donor bone marrow. In our clinic, this treatment is delivered via a linear accelerator, with a large acrylic plate placed in front of the patient body. With the patient standing/sitting on the TBI stand, the linac delivers high-energy beams to the front and back of the body. For our pediatric patients, the same treatment is performed with the patient lying horizontally on the floor.

Total Skin Electron Irradiation (TSEI)

Total skin electron irradiation (TSEI) is a radiation therapy for treating malignant cutaneous T-cell lymphomas. The TSEI is performed on the linac with a special high dose rate electron (HDRE). In our clinic, we use the Sanford technique for treatment, which includes treating the entire skin surface, while arranging the patient in 6 different body positions at a large distance (330 cm) behind an acrylic scatter plate.
