Genomic Sciences and Precision Medicine Center
Leading Personalized Healthcare
The Genomic Sciences and Precision Medicine Center at MCW has its roots in the launch of the Human Genome Project and the 1999 founding of the MCW Human and Molecular Genetics Center. The center uses state-of-the-art whole genome sequencing technologies to investigate how gene variants impact gene expression, define genetic variants associated with both rare and common disease, embryonic development, and the effects of environmental factors and drugs upon gene expression and disease. Raul A. Urrutia, MD
Director, Genomic Sciences and Precision Medicine Center
The GSPMC is pleased to welcome Dr. Raul Urrutia, as Director of the Genomic Sciences and Precision Medicine Center and Professor, Department of Surgery, effective July 1, 2017. Dr. Urrutia currently serves as Professor in the Departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biophysics and Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.
Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory
Launched in 2012, the Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory became one of the first clinical laboratories in the world to offer Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) as a diagnostic test. Presently, we are one of the few CLIA-certified laboratories in the United States to offer WGS testing. Learn more
Research Sequencing Laboratory
The GSPMC Sequencing Core was established in 2008 with the purpose of using the latest sequencing technology to pave the way for discovery for investigators on campus, across the country, and around the world. Learn more
The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Genomic Sciences and Precision Medicine Center (GSPMC) joined FDA Precision Medicine (PrecisionFDA) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) and hosted a two-day event to introduce and provide training on recent breakthroughs to translate promising biomedical science discoveries from the bench to the Precision Medicine bedside using the most sophisticated sequencing and cloud computer methods, toolsets and resources. View videos from the event.
Apply to Be a Member
The GSPMC provides membership to qualified faculty at MCW and at CTSI-affiliated institutions who demonstrate a proactive interest and involvement in precision medicine-related research and/or clinical activities. Learn more about eligibility and membership types.
