Why choose pharmacy as a career?

Blog post written by: Ana Boutris, 2026 PharmD Candidate

Pharmacy is more than counting pills – it is a profession built on science, compassion and patient care. Yes, we dispense medications, but we also answer tough health questions, help patients manage chronic conditions and work alongside doctors and nurses to improve care.

Pharmacists are often the most accessible healthcare professionals in the community. Whether someone has a question about their prescription or needs advice on managing a chronic condition, we can give trusted help on the spot.

What makes pharmacy even more exciting is how much it has grown. Every year, new roles open up for pharmacists—in research, in hospitals, in community clinics and even in high-tech areas like pharmacogenomics. In addition, there are new roles opening each year that bring new opportunities such as administering vaccines, performing health screenings or engaging in clinical research. Pharmacists are stepping into expanded roles that make a real difference in public health.

At the heart of it all, pharmacy is about helping people. Whether it is easing a parent’s worries about their child’s fever, helping someone understand a new diagnosis or guiding a cancer patient through complex treatments, we are there for some of the most important moments in healthcare.

If you are passionate about science, healthcare and making a positive impact, pharmacy may be a perfect fit.
