Modular Functionality: When to Use What

Funding Proposals (grants): Use the Funding Proposal module to create, submit, and track all MCW-submitted grants. eBridge is integrated with Oracle for post-award account administration. Users can also create budgets with institutional templates and recieve automatic email notifications for requested changes from the Grants and Contracts Office and/or sponsors.

Human Research Applications: Use the Human Subject Projects module to create, submit, and track new IRB protocols, amendments, continuing progress reports, and reportable events, which must be entered in eBridge. Protocols that remain in paper form with permission from the Human Research Protection Program, NCI CIRB submissions, HUD submissions and requests for emergency use are exempt from this requirement.

Animal Use Applications: Use the Animal Submissions module to submit, track, report and archive animal research activities. Under this module, eBridge tracks and communicates submission states and required actions on behalf of the IACUC, as well as renewal due date notification.

Institutional Biosafety Committee Applications: Use the IBC module to submit review requests for the use of biologicals. IBC decision letters are sent electronically through eBridge.

Researcher Profile: Your Researcher Profile is your central repository for training records, including training related to Animal Submissions, Financial Conflicts of Interest in Research, CITI training, and safety training. eBridge sends automatic reminder emails when date sensitive training is about to expire.

eBridge System Roles

The eBridge system allots varying levels of security and access depending on the role of the user. Two of the most commonly requested are Study Staff (to gain access to an IRB Protocol or an IACUC AUA) and Proposal Team (to gain access to the Grants and Contracts Funding Proposal Module). If you need one of these roles added to your account, please complete a Help Desk Service Request Form.

The Principal Investigator role is generally reserved for full time MCW faculty. Adjunct faculty, instructors, graduate students and other personnel maybe able to request the PI role. Instructions are outlined in the Prinicpal Investigator Eligibility Policy (intranet access required). 


Funding Proposal Roles (PDF), such as a Budget Specialist, may have access to sensitive financial information and may require additional permissions from your department. When this is the case, please have your Department Administrator complete an Authorized User Update Form below.

To make changes to the department roles of: You must have the eBridge role of:

  • Compliance Training Administrator
  • Department Chair
  • Division Chief
  • Human Research Training Administrator
  • IACUC-IRB Department Approver

To request an addition or change to the role of: You must have the eBridge role of:
  • CA (Center Administrator)
  • CA (Center Administrator)
